The process can also be used for decorating novelty items such as cell phone covers, plaques, coffee mugs, and other items with sublimation-friendly surfaces.
The process uses the science of sublimation, in which heat and pressure are applied to a solid, turning it into a gas through an endothermic reaction without passing through the liquid phase. Heat presses are available that vary in size and application. They all function in the same manner - at 400 degree Fahrenheit, they heat the ink on the transfer paper and the polymer fibers within the substrate, enabling the transfer of ink to the media you are using.
